About Pallavi
Living in Oakland, CA, I engage in a variety of creative and educational projects. My music is inspired by the rich heritage of indigenous folk music globally, and I'm driven by self-determination theory to use my art to empower marginalized voices. In fiber and textile arts, I'm committed to transforming discarded materials like Sarees and reused yarn into beautiful, sustainable art through weaving, spinning, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and macrame.
Beyond my artistic endeavors, I'm also deeply involved in education and community work. As an educator, I specialize in trauma-informed pedagogy, framing my curriculum with an anti settler-colonial mindset and incorporating dynamic mindfulness, non-violent communication, conflict resolution, restorative justice, and culturally responsive techniques. My goal is to foster an inclusive, understanding learning environment that respects diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Additionally, I offer my skills as a grant writer for artists and nonprofits, providing consultations and contract work. This aspect of my career allows me to support other artists and organizations in their creative and community-focused endeavors.
My work blends art, education, and activism, driven by a profound desire to make a positive impact in my community and beyond.
